D. Hampden, who was bishop of the see 1848—68. The library, it should be added, placed in a room adjoining the northtransept, contains many old books in MS. chained to their places. Some ofthem are fine specimens of ancient handwriting, and contain beautiful illustra-tions in gold and colour.
