He returns to Covent Garden next year for Il Trovatore and, later, Don Jose in Carmen. Next week's 28th October 2006. Rodolfo is, in part, a step back in repertoire. But it's a role I've always wanted to sing in London. This is the house, the city, that means most to me, where my career has developed and where I've been given chances. While he excelled in Luisa Miller at Covent Garden, he was less than enthusiastic about the production - "A director said to me, 'Marcelo, could you please keep your arms to your side when you sing, that's a silly tenor gesture.' And I say, 'You are speaking madness. I will sing upside down, or hanging from a ladder or flat on my back if it makes dramatic sense " I am a silly tenor, I throw my arms out.
