A bowli in bad shape along the Delhi-Srinagar Grand Trunk Road near Sankhatra town in Narowal District of Pakistan. Bowli was a part of caravan sarais (highway inns) built by a 16th century King of India, Sher Shah Suri, along the two Grand Trunk Roads from Calcutta to Peshawar and Srinagar. The Road was dotted with Bowlis, consisting of a shelter and a well at regular intervals. Trees were planted on both sides of the road to give shade to the passers-by. Pakistan, December 25, 2006.
