The Methodist andRoman Catholic churches are commodious structures of a somewhat ancient type. Thechurches of Fredericton possess the very unique feature of being free from debt. The placid Celestial citizen is at peace with all the world. The tranquil river flow-ing by his door is a mirror of his mind. He is content with his lot, for, if he is secure from Page Nine. He is liberal in thought — conservative in action. Perched upon apinnacle of judicial impartiality, he calmly listens to the evidence as to the doings of theouter world, and then takes time to consider. Whether rich or poor, bond or free, the nameof Fredericton is inscribed upon his heart, and he carries with him his love of the fair oldelm-shaded city to the end of his earthly days. From a civic standpoint the town enjoys progressive government. The ratepayer iswont to make a wry face at his tax bill and denounce the powers that be, but he wants thebest that is going, nevertheless.
