Where this exists, treat-ment will consist in restoring the original articulation, aspreviously described. Such then are the two recognised agents in causingabrasion; but I shall now describe a case in practice pro-ceeding from the latter, which occasioned constitutionaldisturbance to such an extent as to produce abnormal condition had developed a species of dis-ease—stridor dentium—resulting from an acquired badhabit that eventually resolved itself into functional de-rangement of a serious character. By this habit the 159 crowns of the remaining molars and bicuspids had beenreduced to very much less than their original length {videillustration).. Fig. 64. a. Gum, labio-dental region, showing near approach of the superiorcentral to it. The four cuts delineate the same number of stages, and are intended to define, first, the condition of themouth as originally presented, showing occlusion, withaggressive action of lower incisors; second, the prelimi-nary and progressive measures during the different stagesof operating, comprising restorations with gold on theright side to obtain the normal articulation—leaving ahiatus on the left side in the region of the molars; and, third, the ultimate results as a sequence to adoption ofthe above measures (see Figures 65 and 67). The draw-ings are made from split sections of models taken fromthe mouth, the outlines of roots and gums on the sectional 160 surface being imaginary, and added to define the relativeposi
