The experimental work has shown consistentprogress but has not advanced to a point where furtherdisclosure of methods and results is advisable. A New Model of Transmission ANEW model of gearset known as Model 55 has beenadded to the line of the Brown-Lipe Gear Co. Thenew product was designed to fill a gap in its range ofsizes and has several individual features. Model 55 is of the main-frame type and in capacityis substantially midway between Models 50 and features are selective gears that give fourspeeds forward and one reverse; a rear mainshaft bear-ing cap that takes a speedometer drive, and two S. A. pads, one on the right and one on the left sideof the case, intended respectively for a one-speed powertake-off and a pump. Optional arrangements include either overhead or side. w GearsetModel shift and—when a power take-off is not used—the mount-ing of the pump on the right side of the case. Of course, the option of shifts necessitates the selection of one oftwo forms of case, cover, etc., but the pump can bemounted on the right side at any time by adding to ita 2-in. filler block, furnished by the pump illustration given here shows the overhead side shift type transmission is less in depth by theheight of the shifter, housing, but slightly greater inwidth. THE consumption of gasoline in Australia is increas-ing rapidly and is leading to an investigation ofthe possibilities of the Commonwealth. In 1910 the con-sumption was 25,725,000 gallons; in 1915, 43,000,000 gal-lons, and by 1919 it had increased to 51,000,000 the presence of oil is evidenced by its oozingfrom the ground in numerous places, drilling has failedto discover deposits of commercial value.
