Thunderstorm over Brazil. Cumulonimbus storm clouds photographed by the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger during the STS-41B mission of 3-11 February 1984. The clouds have formed over the Parana River in southern Brazil. Overshooting tops and anvil clouds are also seen. Cumulonimbus clouds may extend upwards to an altitude in excess of 10 kilometres, driven by an immensely strong central up-current.
