Path through the Village of Manen at Ede, 1783. Wybrand Hendriks lived in Ede in the province of Gelderland between 1782 and 1785, far from the bustling art world. His stay resulted in several wonderful coloured drawings of the surrounding countryside. Their immediacy and freshness is striking. Like most artists of the time, Hendriks would sketch outdoors with black chalk, and then colour the drawing later, back at his studio.
