Massive weight loss in a 61-year-old male patient. This patient has large folds of excess skin as a result of losing over 76 kilos (12 stone) in weight. The excess skin is due to be surgically removed in a procedure known as abdominoplasty. This patient also has a colostomy, which allows discharge of faeces into a bag attached to the skin. A temporary or permanent colostomy is necessary when part of the colon or rectum has to be removed, due to cancer or other bowel disorders.
