Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV, lower left) approaching the International Space Station (ISS), artwork. The ATV is an unmanned vehicle used by the European Space Agency to resupply the International Space Station (ISS). This was the planned 2007 docking of the Jules Verne ATV with the ISS's Zvezda module. The launch was delayed until 2008, by which time additional ISS modules (such as Columbus) had been added. Jules Verne launched on 9 March 2008 and docked on 3 April 2008. After boosting the orbit of the ISS, it separated and de-orbited with its cargo of waste, burning up in the Earth's atmosphere on 29 September 2008.
