The National Guard Memorial and pillbox overlooking Omaha Beach (Dog Green sector) at Vierville-sur-Mer, Normandy. The memorial has been constructed on top of a key German pillbox facing up the beach. The pillbox was designed to restrict the opportunity of attacking artillery from penetrating the gun turret area (covered with a grill today): note the concrete lip which extends away from the gun turret area.
