Farther south is Bacolor, another provincial chief town, which was selected as the capital of the Spanish possessions during the temporary occupa- tion of Manilla by the English in 1762. The steamers jjl^dng between Manilla and the Lower Pampanga stop at the station of Ouagna below Bacolor. Calumpit, an agricultural centre east of this place, stands at the confluence of the Pampanga and Quingoa rivers, in the most fertile district of the archipelago.
