Tuatara, Sphenodon punctatus
The tuatara, despite its appearance is not actually a lizard but the sole surviving member of an ancient order of reptiles which are closer to the dinosaurs than todays lizards. The reptiles are threatened with extinction and are only found in New Zealand.
