Something higher than increased gatereceipts should be our aim. Some Societies are giving prizes that the children can compete for, suchas for poultry raised by themselves. Others might be offered to the child whoputs up the finest collection of weeds, or for the finest collection of wild. flowers, properly named. Prizes could also be offered for essays on weeds andbest method of destroying them, to be competed for by children of the ruralschools, also for the best selection of fruit, roots, vegetables, and selectedsheaves of the different kinds of grain grown on the farms of their parentsor on their own special plots. A barrelof mixed varieties of apples might be utilized and the boys or girls namingthe largest number correctly would receive the prizes; With exhibits ofpoultry might go a declaration from the parents that the birds were raisedand cared for by the children themselves. 1 would again call your attention to the fact that many societies havenot yet had enterprise enough to arrange for proper judging rings for is impossible for our judges, however capable they
