To speed up loading at congested points, auxiliarystreet collectors are used, these cars being equipped witha shaft extending out from the steps and connected tothe door-operating mechanism by beveled gears, so thatthese collectors are enabled by using a crank, to openthe rear right-hand door and admit passengers. The arrangement of the separate entrance and exitdoors makes possible a rate of loading and unloadingequal to that of the older two-man cars on the system,and these doors are arranged for independent opera-tion, so that the operator can close the exit when allpassengers have alighted and confine the ingress of pas-sengers to the entrance door.
