The tastes for these vases, urns, etc., was brought about by the fashion set byLouis XIV. and his court of having rare plants and flowers to decorate the interiors of their mansions and alsotheir gardens, the laying out of which at that time had developed into a tine art. Some of these garden vasesin stone or marble are of the highest form of art.
