Possessing only the education acquired in the commonvSchool of his native town, and two terms of eleven weekseach at Williston seminary at Easthampton, Mr. vSmith hassupplemented that by much that it is the fashion to call self-education, while an abundant stock of native .common sensehas contributed in a large degree to develop the earnestnessof the man, and to endow his writings with originality andpiquancy.
