Mucocele growth. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a sagittal (side) section through the head of a 72 year old man showing a mucocele swelling (green). The front of the head is at left. Mucoceles are swellings that occur when a hollow organ or cavity fills with mucus. In this case the sac-like swelling has originated in the arachnoid (a thin membrane of the brain and spinal cord), expanding into the surrounding regions of brain tissue (blue) and partially deforming the skull (black). MRI uses radio waves and a magnet to obtain \slice\" body images."
