Sala del Maggior Consiglio (Hall of the Great Council) in the Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) in Venice in the Veneto region of northern Italy. This is where the Maggior Consiglio assembled laying the foundation of all Paradiso (Paradise). The hall measuring 53 metres long and 25 metres wide is the largest in the Doge’s Palace and Europe. In 1577 part of the Doge’s Palace suffered a devastating fire. Restoration work was soon underway, commissioning several artists to paint scenes on its long walls of Venetian history. At the one end of the hall above a long row of wooden seats), is an enormous 22 metres by 9 meters size oil canvas painting of Paradiso’, painted by Venetian-born painter, Jacopo Robusti who adopted the nickname of ‘Tintoretto’ The ceiling was completed by Paolo Veronese and is considered to be one of Veronese’s masterpieces, completed between 1575 and 1578.
