The largest Russian Byzantine church in Russian Byzantine style was designed by Aleksi Gornostajev in the style of a 16th century church near Moscow Constructed between 1862 and 1868 with bricks from the Bomarsund fortress in Aland the cathedral features 13 gilded onion domes representing Christ and the 12 Apostles
