Back muscles. Computer artwork of the shoulder joint showing bones (cream), nerves (yellow) and muscles (pink). The muscles across the shoulder blade (scapular) is the infraspinatus muscle. It acts to stabilise the shoulder joint as well as to externally rotate the arm. The large sheet of muscle across the back that attaches to the humerus (upper arm bone) is the latissimus dorsi muscle. It acts to medially rotate the arm and move it sideways and forwards away from the body.
