With us it has stood out for several years, without any protection excepting a slight covering of pine branches during the win- ter, sufficient to afford it a partial shade. A beau- tiful specimen grew for several years on the grounds of the late Wm. Eeid, at Elizabethtown, N". J., and as it was planted in the centre of a group of evergreens, it thrived uninjured for a number of years. The late owner assured the author that in such sheltered situations it might be.
