A L'l'Mus of one species, a pinnate-leaved palm discov- er! d in 188G on one of tbe Florida Keys and distinguished from all other North American palms by its scarlet- orange fruit, which is about the size of a cherry. This palm is cult, in S. Calif. Generic characters: female fl. with calyx small, spreading, somewhat denticulate; petals .3, ovate, obtuse, green, bent back; staniinodia 6, distinctly dark purple at the top: fr. an orange-colored drupe, stipitate, containing 1-3 globular carpels.
