There should'be an automatic- closing lid to keep the closet seat covered and the house and recep- tacles should be thor- oughly screened. The oil will repel flies and will prevent mosqui- toes from breeding there. This is an inex- pensive system, can be installed in an old privy, and when properly installed is both convenient and sanitary. 356. The Water Supply.—Streams do not purify them- selves rapidly as people suppose and may carry pollution many miles, hence water from streams or tanks should not be used when people from whom pollution might come live on the water-shed.
