Praca do Comercio - the Palace Square - Lisbon.

This huhe open square on the banks of the River Tagus was the site of the Royal Palace for 400 years. The original palace was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and was rebuilt to occupy the three porticoed sides of the square. The impressive Arco dua Rua Augusta leads to Rua Augusta and is the entrance to the Baixa district. An elevator takes visitors to the top of the Arco for wonderful views over Praca Comercio and the River Tagus.
