VUKOVAR, CROATIA - MAY 11, 2018: Croatian coat of arms, called grb republike hrvatske, with a mention of the country in ancient croatian alphabet, called glagolitic script. Picture of a coat of arms of Croatia in Vukovar, with the word Croatia translated in ancient glagolitic script. The Glagolitic script is the oldest known Slavic alphabet. It is generally agreed to have been created in the 9th century by Saint Cyril, a Byzantine monk from Thessaloniki. The coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia consists of one main shield and five smaller shields which form a crown over the main shield. The main coat of arms is a checkerboard that consists of 13 red and 12 silver fields. It's also informally known in Croatian as sahovnica.
