The magnificent Geiranger Fjord is located in the Sunnm¿re region of M¿re og Romsdal county, Norway. One of NorwayÕs most popular tourist attractions, it was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Like all fjords in Norway, its natural beauty is enhanced by myriads of waterfalls cascading down its steep cliffs. The Seven Sisters (De Syv S¿strene) is the most noted of these; it consists of seven separate streams, the tallest of which has a free fall to the fjord base of 250 metres. Like all fjords, Geiranger Fjord was carved by the action of glaciers in the ice ages and was then flooded by the sea when the glaciers retreated. Who knows, one day the glaciers may return? But not yetÉ
