. 'Potnia Theron', Greek for 'Mistress of Animals': Fresco from the bronze age excavation site of Akrotiri on the Greek island Santorini. This fresco is interpreted as showing a goddess on the right hand site, seated on a throne, protected by a griffin behind her, that she holds on a leash. To the left and in front of her a monkey depicted in blue offers a bowl to her with raised arms, while a young woman pours flowers of the saffron crocus in a large bowl. The fresco is part of a large wall painting, dubbed the 'saffron gatherers', that covers two walls in an upper floor room of the building

The fresco is part of a large wall painting, dubbed the 'saffron gatherers', that covers two walls in an upper floor room of the building 'Xeste 3'. This building interpreted to be a place of initiation and rites of passage due to an adyton in the group floor and diverse frescoes all over the building. 24 August 2011, 14:45:42 - original fresco from about 1630 AC.
