Skull of Deinogalerix, illustration. This gymnure (close relative of the hedgehog) is an extinct prehistoric mammal that was found in what is now Italy between 10 and 5 million years ago in the Late Miocene. It is thought the large incisor teeth were used to seize prey. Deinogalerix is believed to have fed on insects.
