Bamboo harvested in the forests of Sylhet (northern district) is tied, floated and transported down the Buriganga river, Bangladesh. There are 22 varieties of bamboo recorded in the country and the largest ones are used in the construction industry for scaffolding purposes. However, with diminishing agricultural land cultivation of this species has drastically reduced and even importation of bamboo from Thailand and Philippines is done to meet the deficit.
