Fermilab building. Robert Rathbun Wilson Hall, the 16-storey administrative building for Fermilab. Fermilab, the US National Accelerator Laboratory, is located in Batavia, Illinois, USA. The building consists of two inclined towers joined from the 7th floor upwards. The building was built from 1971 to 1974. The Fermilab campus area covers over 25 square kilometres. Its large accelerator (the Tevatron) is used for particle physics experiments into the fundamental structure of matter. The top and bottom quarks, and the tau neutrino, were detected here. Fermilab was founded in 1967. Robert Rathbun Wilson (1914-2000) was the first director (1967-1978).
