In 1SS3, the Hanni-bal and St. Joseph Railroadwas added to the Burling-ton system. The head-quarters of the Burlingtonfor all lines west of theMissouri are located inOmaha, and from this pointover 2,000 miles of road areoperated. It can readily beunderstood that it is there-fore a pre-eminently greatline for Omaha, bringing toits doors the products ofthe vast region penetratedby its lines, the grain, stockand mineral regions of Ne-braska, Kansas, Colorado,Wyoming and Utah. The Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley line, which has about 1,200 miles of road inoperation in Nebraska, Wyoming and Dakota, had its inception in the construction of a branch linefrom Missouri Valley, on the
