Hastings Rock-a-Nore. Fishing fleet is beach-launched, not tide-dependent. Fishermen are strong characters and always hope for EU law modification.

This fishing fleet is the largest beach-launched fleet in Europe. It is not tide-dependent because the tractor and wooden runners enable the boats to get to the surf and then a ladder is sometimes used to push the boat afloat once the tractor leaves. There is good teamwork by proud men and women. The fish is sold locally. Paul Joy is often seen on TV trying to get improved fishing quotas as the industry suffers from economic turbulence and EU law. The fishing boats are very photogenic and the sunrise makes for ideal photography reportage. Some boats get wrecked or neglected when money runs the Hastings Fishermen are literally the salt of the earth.
