In 1852. during the great siege of cholera, his father died after a short illness, leaving awillow and two children, his younger sister, Dora, now Mrs. Franklin E. Purdy, and afterwards he concluded to try and .see if he could not lessen the burdens of his widowedmother and enileavor to add his mite towards the support of the family.
