Many of the railway companies in theUnited States would do well to take alesson from the Canadian Pacific Rail-way, who has recently opened theirnew shops at Montreal. The tool equip-ment of these shops is in many respectsthe best in the world. The Niles-Be-ment-Pond Company secured the orderfor practically all the large machines. As will be seen from the illustrationon the next page, the shops are of vastproportions, the main shop, of which theillustration is a view, covering about 4Aac-es, the length being 1,167 ft- by 162 ins. in width. The shops were plannedfnr repairing 50 locomotives per month,and for building 6 new locomotives permonth.
