Foreign body in eye. Image 1 of 2. Small foreign body (black, below pupil) in the cornea of a 58- year-old male stone grinder. The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. Corneal foreign bodies may lead to corneal abrasions which cause severe pain, an abnormal sensitivity to bright light and an increased production of tears. The foreign body may be removed under local anaesthesia. The eye is then usually covered with a patch and antibiotic drugs in the form of eye drops may be prescribed. See M155/511 for the eye after the foreign body has been removed.
