The Kuaka lays its two eggsabout mid-October, and I believe its breedingseason is much more restricted in time. TheMutton Biid is the last of the Petrels mentionedin this book to lay in bulk. I have, however, nodoubt ])ut that the few dozen individuals of this. AND OTHER BIRDS 43 breed noticed on September 2nd to be flying overHerekopere were about to select nests, to holdthem, or to lay; and eggs not much incubatedhave been obtained by me as late as the end ofFebruary.
