MR. CHESTER P. WILSON, formerly of Milwaukee, andrecently of Cape Town, South Africa, has just been appointedsuperintendent of the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Railroad Company, of Scranton, Pa. This company, as is generally wellknown, is now building an extended third-rail high-speed electricrailway through the Lackawanna and Wyoming valleys. has had a long ex- perience in electric after his graduation fromCornell University as mechani-cal engineer in 1892, he enteredthe employ of the PhiladelphiaTraction Company. His firstposition was that of draughts-man, but he was soon promotedto be superintendent of theThirty-Third Street and MarketStreet power station, which wasbeing completed. This stationwas the first in which the West-i n g h o u s e direct-connected,slow-speed generators were in-. stalled, and Mr. Wilson at the time made an exhaustive inves- CHliSlER 1. tigation of these machines. This work, in connection with a course of study taken at thesame time, enabled him to take a masters degree in engi-neering at Cornell University in 1896. In the latter year he re-signed from the Philadelphia Traction Company and accepted theposition of chief engineer for Swift & Companys East St. Louisplant, where he had charge of the refrigeration, power andlighting machinery. He was in charge of this work at the timeof the St. Louis cyclone, and during the period of repairs andincrease of plant immediately following.
