MAZES - CHARTRES The so-called maze, in the nave pavement of Chartres Cathedral is really a dancing ground - one cannot get lost in following its meandering lines. From the starting point, one is lead inexorably to the centre, where, in former times, there was a brass plaque bearing an image of Theseus fighting the Minotaur. Thirteenth century design.
