A pathological increaseis found in a large proportion of diseases which are asso-ciated with a toxic state. Experiments on Isolation from the Urine.—Place 800 of urine in aprecipitating jar, add 250 of baryta mixture1 and stir thor-oughly. Filter off the precipitate of phosphates, sulphates, urates and hippurates and evaporate the filtrate on a water-bath to a thick syrup. This syrup contains chlorides, creatinin, organic salts, pigments and urea. Extract the syrup withwarm 95 per cent alcohol and filter again. The filtrate containsthe urea contaminated with pigment. Decolorize the filtrateby boiling with animal charcoal, filter again and stand the 1 Baryta mixture consists of a mixture of one volume of a saturatedsolution of Ba(N03)2 and two volumes of a saturated solution of Ba(OH)2.
