One evening Dr. Alartinez was waylaid and shotdown by a horseman who immediately afterwardscrossed into Mexico and was seen to enter army bar-racks on the other side. It is a pretty well authenticatedfact that on the night of tlie assassination the governorof the state of Nuevo Leon, who was at that time recog-nized as Diazs right-hand man in the border states,
