July 1932 . An old photograph of the Victory Tower in the centre of the Parliament buildings, Ottawa, Canada. It is also known as The Peace Tower ;Tour de la Paix; Tower of Victory and Peace and Tour de Victoire et de Paix. The tower replaced the original 55-metre (180 ft) original Victoria Tower that burned down in 1916, along with most of the Centre Block. The Library of Parliament survived. It is now a Canadian icon and has been featured prominently on Canadian twenty-dollar bills. The tower is a gothic campanile (Carillon) designed by Jean Omer Marchand and John A. Pearson.
