The banquet commenced at 6:30 p. m., with seventy-five guests present, among whom were representatives of the trade and local press, representa- tives of neighboring societies, gentle- men of the vicinity who are interested in horticulture, and members of the Nassau society. The Eev. J. "W. Gam- mock, who is a life member of the society, delivered an excellent address on the improvement of Glen Cove. President J. F. Johnson, on behalf of the society, presented to S. J. Tre- pess, past president, a diamond scarf- pin as a token of appreciation of the valuable service he gave the society during his term as president. After- ward, Mr. Johnson, in a few well- chosen words, welcomed the guests and started the feast. After the menu had been done jus- tice to. President Johnson introduced Arthur Herrington as the toastmaster of the evening, and anyone who has heard Mr. Herrington preside on such an occasion knows what an able toast- master he is. His good, sensible talks and witty remarks kept the boys in great humor all the evening.
