Scaphiopus holbrookii, the eastern spadefoot toad, is found in the Eastern United states. This species can be abundant but sometimes rare to see as they spend much of their time underneath the ground and only emerge after heavy rains. They get their name from their specialized feet which aide them in digging through the sandy soils in the areas they are found in.
