Side view of the scar on the foot of a 66 year old female patient, seven weeks after surgery to correct a bunion (hallux valgus), a swelling in the joint of the big toe. The big toe has been surgically treated using Akin's osteotomy in which a wedge of bone is removed from the base of the toe to straighten it, and the other toes pinned straight. (See images C004/2395 and C004/1398 showing the pinned smaller toes and the whole foot).
