A herd of Wild Konik horses graze on marsh land by the banks of the River Stour in Canterbury Kent after being released today. The 13 Konik horses have been imported from Holland to help restore the 300 acre nature reserve. Their grazing of marshy areas helps to create ideal living conditions for birds such as geese, spoonbills, bitterns and corncrakes. The horses are the closest living relatives of the extinct Tarpan, the wild forest horse which roamed Britain in prehistoric times.
