I next strolled down the river bedwhere I discovered a nest in the sandbar with four spotted eggs of the Spot-ted Sandpiper, the single one which Ipreserved was slightly incubated. Ina bank near by I observed a BeltedKingfisher {Ceryle alcyon) fly from ahole, and after about one hours dig-ging I secured seven glossy whiteeggs, and as the bird would not returnto its spoiled nest I took the entire setof these eggs. While at this work Iobserved the female Spotted Sandpiperreturn to its remaining three eggs andproceed incubating as if nothing hadhappened. The next two nests I found were oneof the Yellow-breasted Chat with foureggs and one nest of the CardinalGrosbeak, but as I had eggs of thesetwo species already in my collection Ileft them undisturbed. I also foundthe Bank Swallow nesting in the samebank where the Belted Kingfisherswere procured, but the nests were highup on the steep face of the bank so Icould not procure them. Upon thegreen grass under the welcome shade. JAMES F. HONECKER, OOLOGIST, Oak Forest, Indiana. of a large elm tree I sat down to eatmy dinner, after resting some time Istarted out again for new material. Inext came to an old Sycamore stub, when a rap on it flushed a Red-headedWoodpecker from a hole. From a setof six pure white eggs one was a grassy hillside I found a nest offour eggs of the Killdeer, one eggwent along with me leaving three inthe nest for its owner. Entering the woods I discovered anest of the Coopers Hawk having anegg of this specie I paid no furtherattention to this nest; and after walkingabout three miles I didnt find a singlenest nor egg. As by this time the sunwas sinking low in the west, reflectingits golden sunbeams on the distanthilltops, I was nearing home when Ihad the pleasure of finding a nest ofthe Bob-white under a large stone, leaning against an old stump. The THE OOLOGIST. 73 nest was placed on the ground, linedwith fine grass
