Light micrograph of motor neurons of the spinal cord grey matter. These large nerve cells show cytoplasmic extensions representing dendrites and a single axon. The axon may extend for a considerable distance to the foot. Rough endoplasmic reticulum (purple/blue-stained material) surrounds the cell nucleus and is called Nissl substance. Between the neurons is the neuropil comprised of dendrites, axons, capillaries and glial cells. Magnification x480 printed at 10cm height.
