The State Experiment Stationwas organized at Baton Rouge in 1886 by the State bureau of agricul-ture, and was partially supported by funds from that department untilit was relieved by the State and National governments. Upon pas-sage of the act of Congress of March 2, 1887, a third station wasestablished in north Louisiana. The three stations constitute a department of the Louisiana StateUniversity and Agricultural and Mechanical College.
