ISS Zarya module launch. Launch of the Zarya module, the first element of the International Space Station, onboard a Proton rocket. Zarya ('Dawn'), also known as the Functional Cargo Block or FCB, provided power and life support for the early stages of construction of the ISS. Since later modules have been added, Zarya is now used mainly for storage. Photographed at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakstan, on 20th November 1998.
